Curiositrees Meditation Deck
A “Tree-Mendous” Mediation Deck Review
by Psychic - Magic (Karen Howard)
I heard about Curiositrees through a discussion on LinkedIn.com regarding tarot/oracle/meditation decks. Curiosity got the better of me, and I asked if we could review the deck.
This is a well presented deck. It arrived in a silver lined black velvet drawstring pouch. The cards measure 3.5" x 5", a comfortable size. Included with the deck are very clear and concise guidelines for use.
Each card is a glossy and sturdy photograph of a tree, and the idea is to meditate on the “face” on the card. Heather Wolf found some very interesting and personable trees to photograph for the deck (the instruction card notes that “Each tree gave its permission to appear in this deck.”). Diana Schuster is the “tree whisperer” who interpreted the messages. Together they have produced a unique and marvelous meditation deck. Some of the trees actually show more than one “face”, and the expressions can be quite intriguing. I think my favorite is “Be childlike”, which looks like a fun-loving youngster with its tongue sticking out.
When I first heard about Curiositrees, I thought it would be a fun deck to peruse. I can see now that it is more than that. It’s a very deep and insightful meditation tool. As I went through the deck the first time, I found myself pausing to look at the faces and started receiving messages. After the first look, I chose a specific card and got lost in the tree and the foliage in the background; I could almost hear a breeze stirring the branches where birds and insects played. I could smell the rich earth that covered the roots, and the leaves that showed their light undersides.
Curiositrees sounds so simple — and it is — but that doesn’t mean it should be taken lightly. One suggestion for using the deck is to prop a card up, or place it on the fridge where you can see it frequently. Those are excellent suggestions, because you’ll see something new and different each time you look at the card. And the tree will tell you something about yourself and what you need to hear.
I highly recommend this deck for those who use tarot or oracle decks. I recommend it for people who have never used a deck. You don’t need to take classes to learn how to use it. Just pick it up and look at the trees. I’ll bet you’ll find an “old friend” — a relative of the trees you sat under or climbed in when you were a youngster.
An added bonus is the fact that a portion of proceeds from the sale of each deck will go to American Forests for the planting of new trees for future generations.
Visit the website and take a look at the trees. Some will make you laugh, all will make you stop and think. Curiositrees would make an excellent “stocking stuffer”.
